Dance Class Descriptions


 

Tiny Tots (Ages 2-3):

Music, fun and games all while learning too.  Children will learn everything from basic body movements to using their imagination and coordination.

Pre Dance I (Ages 3-5):

Dancers begin to learn more about the fundamentals of ballet and tap.  With the use of fun music and purposeful games, your child will obtain dance vocabulary/skills that will further them in the dance world.

Pre Dance II (Ages 5-6):

Dancers are challenged to understand musicality, direction, rhythm and memorization.  Fun games and music are used to help teach kids the basics of dancing.

Kinder Combo (Ages 4-7):

Dancers get a taste of dance and gymnastics.  Both disciplines will teach coordination, balance and flexibility.  Dancers will in the dance studio as well as in the gym. 

Ballet:

Ballet is a classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses.  Dancers will learn the fundamentals of ballet based on their skill level.
Beg. Ballet starts at ages 7-10, Int. Ballet ages 11-13, Adv. Ballet ages 14-18. 

Jazz:

Jazz is a stylistic form of dance that focuses on jumps, turns and leaps.  Jazz dancers will learn progression across the floor as well as stylized choreography. 
Beg. Jazz starts at ages 7-10, Int. Jazz ages 11-13 and Adv. Jazz ages 14-18.

Tap:

Tap is a style of dance that uses precise rhythmical patterns of foot movement to create audible sounds.  Dancers will learn rhythms, patterns and choreography to upbeat music.   
Beg. Tap starts at ages 7-10, Int. Tap ages 11-13 and Adv. Tap ages 14-18.

Hip Hop:

Dancers will learn how to dance like their favorite hip hop artists in this class.  Style, showmanship, choreography and musicality will be taught to the newest pop music. 
Beg. Hip Hop starts at ages 7-10, Int. Hip Hop ages 11-13 and Adv. Hip Hop ages 14-18.

Lyrical/Contemporary:

This popular dance style is a fusion of ballet and jazz techniques with a contemporary twist.  Students will learn grace, poise and be able to expressive themselves freely. 
Int. Lyrical ages 11-13 and Adv. Lyrical ages 14-18.

Pom Tech:

Students hoping to try out for their high school pom pon team will benefit from this class.  We will work on all the pom techniques that will strengthen you for pom tryouts and shows throughout the year. There will be an Intermediate and Advanced Pom Tech class offered.

Strength and Stretch:

This class will focus on strengthening your dancer to become more flexible and strong.  We will work on flexibility, core strength and muscle max.  This class will ensure improvement in other areas of dance.

Stage Prep:

Dancers will learn how to become better stage performers in this class.  We will work on stage presence, showmanship, emotion as well as covering the essential of a performer.  This class is very beneficial for those hoping to be on a competitive performing group at Midwest Edge.
